XILINX RANKED AMONG THE TOP IN FORTUNE
MAGAZINE'S ANNUAL LIST OF "100 BEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR" FOR 4th
STRAIGHT YEAR
Programmable device leader ranked 10th on 2004 edition of
prestigious list despite continued slowdown in technology
sector
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 9, 2004 - FORTUNE Magazine announced
this week that despite tough conditions in the high technology
industry, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) continues to be viewed as one
of the top places to work in all industries, finishing No. 10 in
the magazine's annual listing of "The Best 100 Companies to Work
For." It marks the fourth year in a row that Xilinx is on FORTUNE'S
top 100 best companies list, joining a select group of multi-year
selections and belying a tough economic environment that resulted
in fewer high tech companies making the list. The 2004 ranking and
related stories appear now at www.fortune.com
and in print in the January 12, 2004 issue.
"This recognition underscores our unique culture at Xilinx , and
one that we believe is a key to our overall corporate success,"
said Wim Roelandts, CEO of Xilinx. "Ours is a very dynamic and
competitive industry and without satisfied and fulfilled employees,
we wouldn't be able to continually drive innovation into our
marketplace. This past year continued to present some very
challenging operating conditions in the semiconductor industry and
we are proud of our employee morale, in spite of the continued
slowdown in our industry. It is far easier to be a great place to
work in a hot economy, and I will always be proud of the fact that
it was during the toughest times that our employees recognized the
unique culture that makes Xilinx a great place to work."
The Fortune listing is just one of many high-profile recognitions
for Xilinx, the leader in programmable logic devices (PLDs). In the
past six months, the company has been cited by Forbes Magazine as
the Best Managed Semiconductor Company and one of America's Best
Big Companies, by Money Magazine as one of the Top 10 Emerging Blue
Chip Stocks, and by the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) as
its Most Respected Publicly Traded Company.
"It's especially appropriate that Xilinx is recognized for this
honor as we enter our 20th anniversary year. Since Day One, Xilinx
employees have been the foundation on which the company has built a
track record of innovation and success," added Vice President of
Human Resources Peg Wynn.
FORTUNE recognized Xilinx on this year's list partly for
continuing a policy of layoffs-as-a-last-resort - which has led to
no layoffs in the history of the company - and for offering all
employees stock options. The magazine also noted that CEO Roelandts
responds directly to employees' emails to him.
To select this year's FORTUNE best 100 companies list, the Great
Place to Work Institute in San Francisco conducted an independent
survey of a random sample of employees from 269 companies, selected
from more than 1000 total candidates, to gather opinions about
their workplaces. More than 40,000 responses were received, with
nearly half of the employees providing additional written
comments.
