FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XILINX SHIPS MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION Pb-FREE AND
RoHS-COMPLIANT UNITS
FPGA Leader Reinforces Commitment to
Environmentally-Responsible Standards
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 19, 2004 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX)
continues to expand its commitment to reducing the amount of lead
(Pb) and other hazardous materials in programmable logic devices.
Xilinx has already shipped more than 1.5 million Pb-free,
RoHS-compliant units and is reporting a consistent increase in the
volume of environmentally friendly product shipments each month.
Pb-free and RoHS (Directive of the European Parliament on the
Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in
electrical and electronic equipment) solutions are available from
Xilinx for many of its leading product families.
The FPGA leader's commitment to earth friendly solutions was also
recognized by Sony Corp, which named Xilinx as one of its Green
Partners in early September 2003. Sony established the Sony Green
Partner Standards in July 2001 with the aim of encouraging
suppliers to introduce Green Partner environmental management
systems. The qualification is based on Xilinx meeting Sony's
requirements for reduced use of environmentally-sensitive related
substances.
"We are pleased to be one of the leaders in advanced Pb-free and
ROHS-compliant semiconductor packaging and manufacture. The fact
that we can deliver environmentally friendly products without any
performance or quality compromises is a huge win for all
stakeholders, and is at the core of our corporate culture," said
B.C. Ooi, vice president of Operations at Xilinx. "We congratulate
the partners in our supply chain who are instrumental in driving
Pb-free initiatives, and we look forward to reaching new levels of
environmentally-sound practices in the future."
Environmentally Friendly Offering
The use of Pb and other hazardous materials in electronic products
is an increasingly visible environmental and political concern. OEM
initiatives and legislation are being implemented globally to drive
the removal of these materials from electronic products. With a
clearly defined roadmap and cooperation with technology partners
and the semiconductor supply chain, Xilinx has built a process to
produce products that will meet the requirements and timelines of
OEM initiatives and legislative directives such as RoHS (which also
addresses levels of Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, Cadmium, and PBB
or PBDE flame retardants).
In addition to the aggressive reduction of hazardous substances in
its products, the Company's goal is to actively remove potentially
hazardous materials from all aspects of its business, including
manufacturing, product design and packing materials. Xilinx
underscores this commitment to environmentally responsible
practices and standards through its current certification to the
ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems Standard with programs
in place for recycling, waste reduction and energy management.
